What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that mainly affects the face. Although it can resemble acne, the two conditions are actually different. As it is a relapsing condition, sometimes there will be periods of time when your symptoms are particularly bad, and other times they will be less severe.
What does rosacea look like?
Symptoms of rosacea start with a red flushing of the skin, which can then develop into burning and stinging sensations, permanent redness, spots (papules and pustules) and small blood vessels becoming visible in the skin.
Who can get rosacea?
According to the British Skin Foundation, rosacea predominantly affects people with fair-skin, although it may affect all skin types. People aged between 40 to 60 years old are most likely to suffer from rosacea, and it is more common in women than in men.
Why does rosacea occur?
Although the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, it is thought that it occurs as a result of abnormalities in the blood vessels of the face.
There are also several triggers which may make your rosacea worse. These include:
- Exposure to sunlight
- Stress
- Strenuous exercise
- Hot or cold weather
- Hot drinks
- Alcohol and caffeine
- Certain foods, such as spicy foods
Your rosacea consultation: what to expect?
Your rosacea consultation will be with a doctor who will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate form of treatment. During your consultation they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your rosacea and give you personalised advice. If they decide your rosacea can be treated, they will be able to carry out the procedure in-clinic. Rosacea treatment methods

Laser treatment:
For patients with visible blood vessels, laser treatment can be used to shrink them. The treatment uses brief pulses of light energy that target only the blood vessel, leaving surrounding skin unharmed. If you have a tan, then you will need to allow this to fade before laser treatment, as the procedure will not be effective otherwise.
Skin peels:
Skin peels help rosacea by exfoliating the top layers of skin, speeding up skin turnover and preventing pores from becoming clogged with dead skin cells, which can aggravate rosacea. They can also help to reduce inflammation and promote skin healing. Our peels vary in strength and your doctor can recommend which one is best for you.
Medication:
There is a range of oral and topical medications available and these are capable of treating the redness, pimples, and bumps associated with rosacea. Such treatments are usually prescribed to gain immediate control over the condition, and subsequent long-term use of topical therapy is advised to maintain remission.
Skincare products:
A gentle skin-care routine can be invaluable in helping to control rosacea. In general, non-irritating skin-care products are advisable and protection from sun exposure by using a strong sunscreen also helps. Your practitioner can create a product pack unique to your concerns.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The exact number of treatments you’ll need depends on the severity of your symptoms. On average, three treatments every seven to 14 days are initially required to get excellent results. After this, your practitioner will discuss a maintenance plan. During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss a complete treatment plan with you to suit your needs and finances.
How will I feel during rosacea treatment?
Some slight discomfort may be felt during laser treatment, but this is well tolerated by the majority of patients.
Is Rosacea Treatment The Right Treatment For Me?

What Happens After Rosacea Treatment?
